江安世:大國崛起 腦科學是關鍵

國內研究果蠅腦的第一把交椅、中研院院士江安世今表示,國家應更重視腦科學研究,因為誰掌握腦神經如何運作,誰就掌握下個大國崛起的關鍵。
江安世認為,腦科學之所以為大國崛起關鍵,是因「人最關心的還是人」,若人類已可控制果蠅腦神經,讓果蠅任意變胖變瘦、整夜不睡覺、甚至變成「超級果蠅」,學新事物一次就會,「想像這些發生在人身上會有多大改變!」
江安世表示,一旦知道腦傳遞訊息的奧秘,不僅可讓電腦變得更智慧化,未來人類也許可不吃藥、而是透過控制腦來自我修復疾病,甚至做到人類最希望擁有的「激發腦神經以提升學習、記憶能力。」
「解析人腦內每一個神經細胞,是科學家的夢想。」但是江安世說,人腦太複雜,裡面有一千億個細胞,相較之下果蠅腦只有十三萬五千多個神經細胞,是研究人腦的前哨站,「我們目前已掌握三萬個果蠅腦神經細胞,五年後應可掌握全數;希望五十年後,可掌握人腦所有的神經細胞。」more
清大江安世 當選中研院新科院士
清大生物科技研究所講座教授、腦科學研究中心主任江安世,以他在腦科學傑出的研究表現,四日當選中央研究院第三十屆新科院士。

江安世專長為腦科學,為國際著名的分子影像神經解剖學及行為遺傳學專家,以果蠅為模式動物研究學習與記憶的分子機制及神經網路,曾獲國科會傑出研究獎、行政院傑出科技貢獻獎、教育部學術獎、傑出人才講座、世界科學會生物學類獎等。江安世是全球第一個建構果蠅全腦神經網路圖譜的人,他發明的「生物組織澄清技術」,讓果蠅腦部組織變透明,更容易觀測。他的研究團隊曾描繪出果蠅「嗅覺地圖」,後來又建立完整的果蠅全腦「神經網路地圖」。DNA之父、1962年諾貝爾生理暨醫學獎得主詹姆斯華生,也高度讚賞江安世建構的果蠅腦神經網路圖譜。more

A research group led by Professor Ann-Shyn Chiang of National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan has discovered a shunting mechanism for gating information flow in parallel neural circuits. Using FlyCircuit, a virtual fly brain database containing thousands of single neurons, Chiang’s team predicted and validated neural circuits relaying olfactory information to higher brain centers in the Drosophila brain. more

Inside the teensy brains of fruit flies lies the blueprint for how memories form — information that likely carries over to our bulky noggins — and researchers have just identified two genes that are key to forming long-term memories. "The research could help us tremendously in understanding our own brain and how it forms long-term memories," said lead researcher Ann-Shyn Chiang, a neuroscientist at the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. more
